Meander your way to Portobello via the harbour side drive, (Portobello Rd) or Highcliff Rd. Portobello Rd takes you on a journey along side the waters edge with the sights of Dunedin and the activity on the Otago Harbour.

Stop and visit Glenfalloch woodland gardens and enjoy a stroll amongst the rhododendrons and azaleas. On to Macandrew Bay where there is a gallery displaying both local and National art, a cafe & bar and a convenience store.

Further along Portobello Rd you will come to Broad Bay where you will find Red Shed Pottery, Broad Bay China and the Fletcher House. 3 minutes along the road will bring you to Happy Hens. A great place to purchase that unique gift. Otago Peninsula Motel can be seen from the road by Happy Hens.

On Highcliff Rd the views are stunning and the local crafts a delight. Call in at New Zealand's only castle, Larnach Castle, beautiful gardens to wonder around with great views of the peninsula. Take a walk to Sandy Mount or Lovers Leap, The Chasm or visit the historic Lime Kilns as your journey takes you towards Portobello.

The Westpac Aquarium at Portobello is the first stop on your Peninsula wildlife tour. Open daily from 10am to 4.30pm with guided tours at 10.30am.

Travel on towards Taiaroa Head past the Otakau Marae and on to Wellers Rock jetty where a cruise on the M.V.Monarch can be arranged. A further 5 minutes along to Penguin Place. View close-up the rare yellowed eyed penguin from hides and tunnels that take the visitor within 5 meters of these fascinating birds. Taiaroa head is the home of the Royal Albatross the world's only mainland albatross colony. Coffee and food is available here! Tours of the Armstrong disappearing gun leave from the Albatross centre.
